Wuzup Guys (& Gals)
Some punk Mechanic replaced my clutch and stuff & Rebult my Transmission sometime last year (Can't Remember) and since it came out, Everytime I put it in Reverse, Sometimes it slips off rite when I start Backing up or a few feet away!!!!! Especially backing up a hill!!!!!
Lately I've been doing all my own work but never that Internal into my Engine which I would like to start doing if someone can more or less Explain what's going on in my Civic or what?? (It's a D16Y7)
Note: I do press my clutch pedal all the way in and pull my shifter back hard so I could hear that my clutch Grinds in good. That's when I know I will back-up without it slipping =/

BTW - With the exeption that it's a slow LX, my 5 speeds work perfect it pulls good and everything.

honestly, i'm not sure what would prevent the transmission to slip out of reverse, but i'd say that something some bearing must be worn out. i'm going to see if i can find any more info on the transmission so i can better diagnose it.

Thanx for the input, But like I said, They just Rebuilt my Tranny. Gears, bearings, Clutch and all, Unless that piece of Sh!t didn't do it correctly!!!

I know a guy who has had a similar problem but I think it was in his 1st or 2nd gear. I can e-mail him and ask but it may take a while for him to get back with me. Also, it can't be good that it grinds when going into reverse:(

Ok, heard back from that guy. Take it for what it's worth but he tells me that alot of times when a shop does a rebuild the don't mess with the reverse gear. I guess beacuse they do not get used as much. You may just have a bad reverse gear and a lazy mechanic:(

Ok acutally the sliding clutch is bad, that is what engauges the reverse gear, and it is caused by going from reverse to forward gear without fully diengaugeing the clutch pedel so the clutch has been tapperd so now it just pushes out of gear.
This is an additional message I was sent.

All of my gears are fine, just that damn reverse........ I'ma ask my O.G mechanic and see what he says. If he says he has to rip open my Transmission again, Forget it. Hopefully it's something small and I can do myself but right now I don't know where to look into that's why I'm asking for Advice. I'll stay like that until I do a swap. Actually I would like to change my head only and keep my D Series. hee hee =p

Maybe something that related with sychronizer bush inside your gear box.
My previous car gat the same problem, but in 5`th gear. Initial stage u can try with changing transmission oil. Gud luck

Tranny oil was changed 2 times before they told me that my gears were worn out. They Rebuilt on my Tranny and errything is good Exept my Damn Reverse!!! It doesn't go into gear that good. Atleast it sounds like it doesn't like on other manuel Trannys I drive. you know when it does that nice click reverse gear sound????

Erm...so its may be your reverse gear`s sychronizer bush but, u just rebuilt your Tranny (Ist Tranny = Gear Box or Transmission?) so it`s should be no problem, risk quite low. Maybe your gear shifting shaft`s bush worn or shaft was crooked. Why dont u have a looks on it.
Just my ten cents.

Hey pata I also have a similar problem with my '88 teg. My reverse is harder to get into than the other gears. Sometimes I put it into reverse, but when i hit the gas nothing happens as if the gear is still in neutral. Sometimes i have to really push it in and after i hear 2 clicks i know its actually swapped into reverse fully. Really annoying since i end up just revving the car. Dunno how to fix it though, i think its just a bad gear box or tranny...

yea? that sucks, when I put it in Reverse It'll go for a few inches and then slip rite out. Either it'll make a Ugly Bang sound or Grind out of Reverse. Ugh!! It's anoying but I live with it rite now till I Swap. All my gears are fine just the Reverse. I aint going to take it to shop and pull errything out again, not cause I don't want to, cause I don't have Time!!!
