Default D16y8 Rebuild (pics) - swap into EG

My buddy has a '94 Coupe and his D15b7 took a sh!t. Sounds like they threw small pebles in a soda can and put it in the block lol.

So he pieced together D16y8 Long Block and has decided to do a OEM rebuild.

I will document everything and keep the thread updated as it goes.
I picked up a Engine Stand to start the tear down.

Here is the Long Block:
(lets label these 2 pics the 'before pics')

Block first.
The Head will be easy, just drop it off at the machine shop and it will be ready in a couple days or so.

tear down begins!

Ok, now for the problem.
Already 1hr in and a problem.

The Rod Journal #1
Bearing was going out.

Notice Rod Journals #2 and #1

#2 is smooth as can be and #1 is pretty sore.

Crank Rod Journal is not as bad as it looks on them pictures. But I could feel the sore with my finger nail.

What I can do also is Plastigage all the Rod Journals using the best old bearings and check the tolerance on all 4 journals. If Rod Journal #1 goes beyond tolerance, then a new crank will have to come into play.

Need to get a specs and a torque wrench first

stay tuned...

lol

it was either a D16z6, which I was hoping to find for cheap around here, or a D16y8.

either way it went, it was going to get torn apart.

The head I'm not going to take apart. The Machine shop does it for the same price even if I take it all apart for them. Cam will be good

I'm being a smart ass
